About
Inspired by a lifetime of acne, the authors of this site have found a routine that seems to dramatically reduce acne. The routine is simple and virtually free, so if you have problem acne, there is no reason not to give it a shot. While the mechanisms aren’t fully understood, the results are: This is a healthy way to treat acne without creams and medications.
AcneResearch.org is based in Scottsdale, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. If you live nearby, let us know! We would be happy to work with you in person. Your feedback is valuable to us. We are continually developing our system, which requires all the input we can get our hands on.

Is this website true? Is this for certain the cure for acne? I would like to read about your credentials and if there have been any studies done on this system. I would hate to see another acne scam on the internet. I understand the “system” is a great way to improve your general over all health, and would most likely improve acne in a lot of cases, but stating you have a “cure” is pretty bold.
For instance, in your “system” you recommend a cleanser…. “Wash twice/daily with the most gentle facewash you can find. Acne.org recommends Clean & Clear Foaming Facial Cleanser.”
Have you read the ingredients of this cleanser? It is actually pretty harsh for your skin. “Acne.org” also recommends using benzoyl peroxide to treat acne, which is terrible for your skin…. you also say in your “system” NOT to use topical acne treatments. So it doesn’t seem like you have done your research at all when recommending products or sources in your “system”. Please explain this.
Hi Jena,
Thanks for commenting.
1) I don’t believe this is an absolute cure for acne, but the system is highly effective for me and everyone I know who has tried it. I haven’t found a single case of the system not drastically reducing acne, when followed properly. It’s a little difficult for our system to be a ‘scam’ since we don’t charge anyone any money for anything. We have avoided using the word cure, for the most part, but it slipped into this page. I have removed it. One distinct flaw to our system is that even 2-4 days of living in indoor light, partying at night, or otherwise failing to follow to rules will cause the system to fail. I have a masters degree in computer science, and another member of our team has a PhD in Biochemistry.
2) Most cleansers will work. I find the clean & clear foaming cleanser to be fairly gentle. It really isn’t an important part of our system – the key is really getting enough daylight during the day and proper sleep at night.
3) Benzoyl peroxide is horrible, in my opinion, and I don’t agree with most of the acne.org system. However, I do like the cleanser. I find that I can get by without even using a cleanser at all when I follow this system properly.
I actually disagree with both of you.
I had really bad acne for a long time. I took accutane and it mostly sorted it out, that is after I had tried countless topical products that proved useless.
If you have a slightest knowledge about acne, you know that a condition that doesn’t respond to any cosmetic products, which for me at least worsened the situation, you should use medications.
A few months after I finished taking accutane I started getting breakouts again.
I went back to all the nasty Neutrogena-like products and ointments that made it worse, but eventually eliminated them in favor of Oxy (or benzoyl peroxide).
That completely cleared my face. I don’t think there’s anything bad or evil about B.P. but the misconception about it derives mainly from ignorance.
I think the compounds of chemical acids they put into cosmetic products, Salicylic acid first and foremost, which causes irritating, unnatural exfoliation, only worsen acne and that’s based on experience.
If you want your acne gone, try B.P. If that doesn’t work, result to Accutane. Don’t let these folks fool you.
I don’t know Jake. I’ve had acne for around six years now and I will concede that BP clears you up if you use it everyday and follow a strict facial cleansing, treating, and moisturizing routine daily. But, in my experience BP also burns the hell out your skin and really drys it up especially during the first few weeks of use.
Accutane is just flat out stupid. I don’t mean to be rude, but Accutane has been known to cause severe depression, anxiety, permanent hair loss, and severe intestinal damage sometimes resulting in Crohns disease. Personally, I’d rather have acne. I’m sure plenty of people have taken Accutane and not personally experienced these problems, but it isn’t close to being worth the health effect.
Besides the potential negative health effects these medications have, the fact of the matter is they treat symptoms rather than underlying problems. Acne is practically inexistent in indigenous tribes and most third world countries. It is a symptom of dramatic lifestyle change that modern societies have adopted. Our concern should be with the root cause of acne rather than a way to remove the aesthetic consequences.
I’m not sure if limited sun exposure, a changed diet, stress, drugs and alcohol, or whatever other habits we now have are the culprits. But lifestyle should be our focus.
I agree with Ananomo. And I can say without a doubt using a topical on my chest and back gave my skin a leathery feel. The acne was lessened, but the overall effect on my skin was not good. After quitting my acne came back MUCH worse. I’m 100% convinced the problem is primarily the way I’m living and what I’m putting into my body. (BTW, I was on fish oil, then quit, then started it again about a year later. I believe it does help my skin.)
This is all true!!! I Forget all medications and pills promising to heal your acne. This is just money making. Acne is a signal that your body is out of balance, something that will threaten you health on long term and not just a cosmetic problem to treat.
-, exercise etc. are crucial as well. Once you manage the whole system you’ll start to feel what’s good for you and what not. For me avoiding sugar is essential, but everybody is different. Today I permit myself little sins like a drink or two, a small piece of cake when invited… But this must stay exceptions. I’m an environmental engineer have enough biochemical knowledge to understand the processes behind this diet but finally I think that your body is a very complex system that no scientist is able to explain all the processes. My simple theory is just to compare how our cave man ancestors must have lived and find the balance with our modern days. I have no commercial interests.
I’m Swiss (sorry my English) and had a quite a strong acne as a teen which got better when I reached my 20ies but it never really disappeared. I think I tried about every recommended treatment in those times. Finally my doctor gave me isotretinoin (Roaccutane). I had to bare all the side effects but my skin considerably improved. Unfortunately for about 3 years only! After this time new spots started to appear… nothing severe but I was never 100% free from acne. I somehow accepted this to be “normal” in my life (love, job and friends were going quite well). When I reached my 30is I developed a Rosacea. Most scientists and doctors reject a correlation between acne vulgaris and acne Rosacea. Again I tried innumerable solutions for my “new” skin problem. Meanwhile I had lost my belief in all medicine and medications. I did my own research and tried several diets. My trials brought me independently to the same results as described on this page. I avoid all sugars (also fruits), gluten, and lactose and reduce my carbohydrate intake. I eat loads of vegetables and take regularly zinc, copper, boron and a vitamin B complex, and Vitamin D when I realise I’m not outdoors enough and vitamin A when stressed (be carful not to overdose). After few days my skin had improved enormously and was almost perfect after 2 months. Today 2 years later my skin looks perfect and I feel better and more energetic then I ever did! At the beginning it is tough to realise this diet in our modern everyday life. Especially when eating out. But after a while you develop strategies to get what’s healthy for you. A regular sleeping pattern, enough time to relax – life is good
